{Pajamas or T-Shirts?}

I'm not a big pajama wearer - I'm more of my high school cheerleading and marching band {don't judge} vintage t-shirts and shorts kind of girl - but I stumbled across a pair of pj's on Etsy and that started a search that resulted in all of the cuties....

{Converse Street Fashion}

I have a pair of pink Converse {see below} and I've been wanting a pair of black and grey ones but have been going back and forth as to if I should get a pair for Italy. I realize that they are not the most comfortable shoes - but I'm planning to get an insert made so that I can put it into each shoe I take {kind of genius}. I figure with all the black and grey I'm wearing {especially with my harem pants, chambray skirt, and leggings}, these would be kind cool and maybe even a little chic?
My converse
So I did a little inspiration research to plead my case and I found just what I was looking for...
Black dress white converse
Colorful dress white converse
Converse Trio
White dress grey shoes
Chambray shirt blue converse
Now I just need to side black or grey...I'm thinking black.

{Trend Alert: Studs Are Back}

So if you haven't noticed - stud earrings are back in a big way. I must admit that I'm a hoop girl - but I'm lovin this come back trend.  Cute, fun, romantic studs have become increasingly poplar and I'm definitely on the hot tamale train {for those that watch SYTYCD}. Here are a few that I'm eyeing from some of my favorite stores...

{Ruffled Shower Curtain: DIY}

I've been wanting a ruffled shower curtain for quite some time, but the ones at Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters are a little more than I'm willing to spend. I actually purchased the curtain from Urban Outfitters, but after thinking it over I realized spending $70 for a shower curtain is a bit much, and returned it.
Shower Curtains
So yesterday after spending several hours in an airport, I was able to look through some of my favorite blogs {something I haven't had time to do in a long while} and found this amazing DIY over at Apartment Therapy. The moment I saw it I said "why didn't I think of that?". This truly is a great idea and while I would love to say I'm going to make it - I don't have a sewing machine {or any type of sewing skills} so I'm going to sweet talk my mom into making it for me. So Mom...how much do you love me {she knows when I say this I'm up to something, lol} - you know that fancy sewing machine of yours that's been collecting dust down in the basement? Yea - it's time to clean it off because I have a project for ya - see below:
Ruffled Shower Curtain 1

Materials:
Plain cotton shower curtain (all measurements are based on a standard 70" x 72" curtain)
2.5 yards fabric
Sewing machine
Thread

Step 1: Sew on valance
Begin by sewing an 8" wide valance (hemmed along the top, sides and bottom) across the top of the shower curtain. Leave the valance unstitched over top of each grommet, so the shower curtain rings can still be fed through the holes. The finished valance will hide the shower curtain ring holes.

Step 2: Gather fabric into frills
Using pinking shears, cut four strips of fabric that are each 3" wide and 6' long. Set the stitch size on your sewing machine to the longest possible length. In the centre of each fabric strip, stitch rows, 1/4" apart, the full length of the strip. Working from both ends, gently pull each thread until the fabric gathers into a soft ruffle.

Step 3: Sew on trim
Pin the ruffled fabric onto the shower curtain, spaced about 3" apart. Sew them onto the shower curtain with one line of stitching down the centre of each strip, then pull out the treads previously used to make the fabric into ruffles.

Step 4: Hang and enjoy

Pretty genius huh? Mom - we'll talk later!!!

{Evidence of a Great Weekend}

Overall I had a really nice weekend - full of relaxation, shopping, photography, and food! I've been hearing amazing things about Market Restaurant and this weekend me and the girls decided to try it out. They only serve local, fresh {we actually saw our waiter go outside to clip a few sprigs of basil and cilantro from the garden outside}, and unprocessed foods and the menu is ever-changing, determined by the area’s seasonal variations. The one constant you can definitely depend on is the simplicity of each dish, focused on making sure the natural flavors shine through with each bite. If you live in the Raleigh area ~ I beg you to try it out!

We returned these plates back to our waiter clean enough to put back on the shelf. Everything was so delicious, so fresh, so flavorful....I can't wait to go back! To see the full lunch and dinner menus - click here.

Photography Class
I had a photography class on Saturday with the Triangle Photography Club and we had a fantastic time. We started at the Natural Science Art Museum and worked our way down Fayetteville Street practicing taking pictures after dusk. I still have a lot to learn about lighting, but I'm definitely making progress {trying not to get frustrated in the process}.

Photography Class 2
There was a vintage car show downtown this weekend and the above pics are a couple that I took - below are a few others...

{Sufferin' Succotash}

Last night {after a stressful day} I went and got a hamburger for dinner and it was gross. It had no taste, was oddly shaped, had artificial grill marks {with no signs that this burger even touched a grill} and I started having flashbacks of the movie Food Inc - have you seen it? If not, I absolutely recommend you watch but I must admit that sometimes it's just better not to know. However, since I've seen it {and now I know better}, this experience of the awful artificial beef hamburger has definitely got me thinking about eliminating meat again from my diet - not going to go cold turkey - just slowly getting rid of it and making better food choices.

Once I got home I went to one of my favorite foodie sites, Smitten Kitchen, looking for some healthy summer recipes using fresh, local ingredients...and of course I found a ton. This one, however {Summer Succotash with Bacon and Garlic Croutons}, stuck out and this weekend I'm definitely going to the farmers market to get lots of veggies so I can try it out.

{Corn, lima beans, cranberry beans....hmmm, not sure about those, and tomatoes}

Smitten Kitchen 1
Summer Succotash with Bacon and Garlic Croutons

1 pound fresh shell beans in pod or 1 cup frozen baby lima beans (I used 1/2 pound fresh cranberry beans, 1/2 pound fresh lima beans) - I think I may substitute the cranberry beans for black beans instead...

1/4 pound bacon (about 4 slices) - maybe I'll do 2 slices - I said baby steps, no cold turkey remember? lol!

1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil

1 small Vidalia onion or other sweet onion, chopped

1 large garlic clove, minced

3/4 pound cherry tomatoes (about 1 1/2 pints), halved

Fresh kernels from 4 ears corn

1 tablespoon sherry vinegar, plus more to taste

1/4 cup packed small fresh basil leaves

1/4 cup packed small fresh arugula leaves

Shell fresh beans if using. In a small saucepan of boiling salted water cook beans over moderate heat, stirring occasionally, until just tender, about 5 minutes for fresh or frozen lima beans, 20 to 25 for fresh cranberry beans. In a sieve drain beans and rinse under cold running water to stop cooking. Set aside.

In a skillet cook bacon over moderate heat until crisp. Drain bacon on paper towels and crumble. Pour off all but 1 tablespoon bacon fat from skillet. Add oil to bacon fat in skillet and cook onion over moderate heat, stirring, until just softened. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute more. Add tomatoes, corn, and vinegar and cook, stirring, until tomatoes just begin to lose their shape. Remove skillet from heat and gently stir in cooked beans and half of bacon. Cool succotash to room temperature and gently stir in basil and arugula, and salt, pepper and additional sherry vinegar to taste. Toss with croutons (below, if using) and sprinkle with remaining bacon before serving.

Garlic Croutons

1 garlic clove, peeled and halved

1 round loaf crusty bread

2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

Salt

Cut three 1-inch-thick slices from middle of loaf and brush bread with oil. Lightly oil a well-seasoned ridged grill pan and heat over moderately high heat until hot but not smoking. Grill bread until golden brown on both sides. Alternately, you can run toasts under the broiler for a minute. Remove from heat and immediately rub bread both sides with cut side of garlic and sprinkle with salt. Cut into cubes and toss into succotash.

Sounds yummy huh? I'll let you know how it turns out...

{39 Reasons Why I Love You}

While getting lost in blog-hopping this weekend, I came across {not sure how I got there} inchmark and thought this idea of "39 Reasons Why I Love You" was such an adorable idea. Imagine waking up to a string of notes full of the reasons why someone thinks you're, uh, sh-mazing.....nice, right? I would so keep this in your back pocket for the next time you're looking to score some brownie points {doesn't necessarily have to be your significant other - could be a sibling, a bff, or heck even for yourself}... I just love this very personal and sentimentel idea!
39 Days 1
Brooke of inchmark used 39 notes because her husband was turning 39 on his birthday. Obviously you can use as many or as little as you would like. Here's how to make your own...
39 Days 2
Grab some strips of paper, some colored tape {japanese tape would be awesome}, and some string. Then write a number of things you love about the person - traits you admire, things you know will make he or she laugh, add some serious things as well. Lay out some string and tape your strips in numerical order {Brooke's were about 18 inches apart}.
39 Days 3
Hang your string up using a little more tape...
39 Days 4
Once you take the garland down, save all of the little strips, tuck them into an envelope and stash it so that the person you do this for {even if you do it for yourself} can reread the things you love about them.

Cute idea right?

{Just Call Me The Queen of Online Shopping}

So this past weekend I did A LOT of online shopping for my Italy trip. As you know, I'm going with a black theme to keep everything simple and classy. All of these items will go with things that I already have {jeans, khaki's, black capris, scarves, jewelry, hats, etc...} so I think I'm set. One thing that I love about online shopping is that you get a flood of packages delivered to you...kind of like Christmas {except for that whole paying for your own gifts thing...}.
Italy Outfits
Top row left to right:
~Army green tank embellished with black sequins {perfect to wear alone with jeans or black capris and then put a cardigan or jacket over top in the evening}

~Black classic blazer {can wear with jeans and a white tee to keep it casual, or to dress up and wear in the cool evenings}

~Floral tee & white tee simple to wear during the day}

~Blue button-down shirt {versatile and classic}

Bottom row left to right:
~QUOTE black canvas and cognac leather handbag {this bag is GENIUS! I found it on Etsy and it's a 3-in-1. You are provided with 3 straps to be used as a handbag, a shoulder bag, or....a messenger bag! Fab find right?} Click here to visit the shop.

~Striped tee with flower embellishments {another simple shirt to wear during the day}

~Gentle Souls shoes {ok, these were MEGA expensive, but due to all of the reviews and me trying a pair on last week {they don't rub and I feel like I'm walking on clouds}, I think these will be the perfect shoes to walk around in. Fingers crossed}

~Chambray Skirt {just to switch things up a bit - it's a little shorter than I expected so I think I will wear some leggings underneath...but I still love it - especially the bow}

~Black cardigan vest {can literally be worn over any and everything}

~Classic grey tee {yet another simple tee that I can jazz up a little with the right jewelry and a scarf}

So....what do you think?
