Decor: Major Style in Small Corner Spaces

Ever since moving to New York, I have come to like small spaces (not that I really have a choice). I thought that living in a smaller space would mean that I would want to acquire less, but instead I find myself trying to figure out how I can shove more stuff in. As learning how to maximize your space is an art, and something that I am still working on, I thought today I would show you (and me) how to add major style in the smallest of all spaces - the corners.
How to Decorate Small Corner Spaces
Below I have provided you with a few tips and tricks for how you can add your own personal style while taking full advantage of the space functionality. As an overall tip for small spaces, think vertically. Whether you’re hanging art or shelves, or placing furniture, don’t let vertical space go to waste. Using it is practical and it also draws the eye up, making the space feel more expansive than it actually is.

{Imagine Me In This Space}

I came across this picture over at Apartment Therapy over the weekend and was immediately drawn to several things within this space. My next living room {only after changing a few things} is going to be very much inspired by this room....especially the couch, rug, and art placement...love, love, love this space!

{Magazine Inspiration: Small Space Living}

I recently signed up for a Groupon deal and got both O Magazine and Elle Decor year subscription for only $10. Last night while relaxing and flipping through the pages of Elle Decor, I came across three ideas for when I move into a much smaller place after my lease has ended.
Elle Decor - Mirro Placement
I have a very larger mirror very similar to the one shown in this picture and no matter what, it's coming with me. I would love to have it in my bedroom, but depending on the amount of space I will have available - I like the idea shown above by placing it behind the couch. Additionally, to save space - I like the idea of have a floor lamp instead of having a side cocktail table with a lamp on top.
Elle Decor - Shoe Storage
I can probably forget about my current walk-in closet - which poses a big problem - what in the heck do I do with all of my shoes??? I love this idea of floor to ceiling shelving on a wall in the bedroom to store many things, especially shoes. And while I'm not a fan of seeing clutter, placing ceiling to floor panel of curtains in front of the storage piece {or IKEA Lack shelves} will make the space look clean and fresh. The ideas are rollin...

{Loving Small Spaces: Lonny Magazine Mar/Apr 2012}

The new issue of Lonny Magazine is out, and per the usual it doesn't disappoint. It's chugged full of interior inspiration, and as I'm looking to transfer into a much smaller apartment, I was drawn to the page shown below. Adding lucite to a small space allows you to have an unobstructed view and keeps the eye flowing. It's clear and light in appearance, which lends a polished and clean look to any interior, a quality that is useful in smaller rooms where the illusion of space is a priority.

{Small Space - Big Style}

Have you ever had the thought while looking around your space, of chucking it all, and starting all over? More and more, I'm having that desire and thinking it’s time to start thinking about small space living. Living small doesn’t mean going without, it just means living with what you need – and those things should only be fabulous. This space is my inspiration:

{This Small Space}

HGTV used to have a show called This Small Space and I just loved how these people {mostly in NYC} came up with the most unique ways to maximize their small spaces. DigsDigs recently posted this lovely 500 square foot loft style apartment. The interior is just fabulous and the owners definitely maximized every inch of the space. The apartment is a opened space that really looks bigger than it is. What do you think about the neutral palate? Lately I've been into pattern and color - but I'm diggin the grays, silvers, and whites - definitely makes the space very cohesive. This apartment is an amazing example of how careful planning, and a good eye, can make any space {no matter the size}simply...marvelous. Check out the pics:
