Read This: 6 Books For The New Year

One of the (practical) gifts we get each year for Christmas is a sock box, a scarf/accessory box, or sometimes even an underwear box - but this year I requested a box full of books that will help my business, personal style, and body goals for the coming year. E-books have definitely become the popular reading standard, but there's still something about the feel of an old-fashioned paper book that I just love. I requested that all of the books come used because you can get them super cheap that way on Amazon and they are still in like-new condition. The first book I plan to read is The Creative Habit by Twyla Tharp, but here's a brief synopsis of each book I received:
6 Books for The New Year
Show Your Work (Austin Kleon)
Austin Kleon showed readers how to unlock their creativity by “stealing” from the community of other movers and shakers. Now, in an even more forward-thinking and necessary book, he shows how to take that critical next step on a creative journey—getting known.

Daily Rituals (Mason Currey)
Writers and artists are always asked about their process, including the crucial question, “How do you do meaningful creative work while also earning a living?” This book details the daily rituals of 166 artists. I'm looking forward to reading this as a daily ritual is something that is needed in my day.

Making Ideas Happen (Scott Belsky)
Ideas are easy. Implementation is hard. This book helps you with the hard part.

The Creative Habit (Twyla Tharp)
Some people find this moment—before creativity begins—so painful that they simply cannot deal with it. They get up and walk away from the computer, the canvas, the keyboard; they take a nap or go shopping or fix lunch or do chores around the house. They procrastinate. In its most extreme form, this terror totally paralyzes people.” I know this feeling intimately and why I have put this book to the top of my list .

Elements of Style (Erin Gates)
I've followed Erin's blog for years and adding her style book to my box was a no brainer. Can't wait to dig in!

The Body Book (Cameron Diaz)
The Body Book does not set goals to reach in seven days or thirty days or a year. It offers a holistic, long-term approach to making consistent choices and reaching the ultimate goal: a long, strong, happy, healthy life.

What books do you have on your 2015 list? As you can see I have a pretty full list to attend to but I love getting recommendations - so let me hear it!

  1. I have the Elements of Style book and went to Erin's book signing when she was here in Dallas. Love the book and she was very sweet also.
